This is an up-close photograph of one petroglyph carved by the Taíno tribe. Located at Caguana, Utuado, the petroglyph can be found at the end of a burial site. The name of the site is the Taíno Cerimonial Ball Court. This was considered a "sacred landplace" by Taíno settlers, as people played ball on the batey, and often had festivities. Additional characteristics of the petroglyphs and burial sites include pine resin, granite, and carvings. The ball court is measured at 160x130 feet and contain many Taíno artifacts prior to the late 15th century. Perhaps the most interesting characteristic of the ball court is the well-secured preservation of culture. Many artifacts and information about these cultures can be uncovered with enough exploration.
