Petaloid stones are commonly found near bodies of water in Puerto Rico, and other islands. While they are still common in their home country, the historical petaloids used by the Taíno tribes are preserved at the Taíno Museum in Haiti. This is one of the most signifigant preservations of Taíno culture after it was destroyed from the multiple invasions in Puerto Rico. Currently, the museum in Haiti exhibits all the important historical aspects of Taíno culture, including artifacts delivered from Puerto Rico.
